I’m not exaggerating when I say that lipstick is the single makeup item that brings the most joy to my life. It has magical, instant makeover powers that work for everyone. A slick of colour will instantly perk up your complexion and make you feel more polished and put together. Diving in to deeper shades of lipstick is one of my most favourite things about the cooler months, though admittedly I’ll happily sport a burgundy lip in the height of summer too.
When I was 14, I made my first ever makeup purchase. It was a Bourjois Little Round Pot Eyeshadow in a frosted purple which has long since been discontinued. Not that it was the most flattering hue for my Mediterranean colouring, but I loved it and I’ve been enamoured with purple eyeshadows ever since.
When it comes to arty collaborations, few do it better than NARS. Having previously launched collections in conjunction with the likes of Guy Bourdin and Andy Warhol, makeup master François Nars has now called upon Steven Klein to create a limited edition holiday range.
When it comes to manicures, nothing says timeless chic better than a rich red polish. While exotic hues and day-glo nail art are fun, you can never go wrong with a classic crimson enamel. From tropical brights to deep ox blood, let your nails make a statement with ten of my tried and tested favourites.
Matte lipstick has never been an easy choice for me. The chalky textures and the quick drying, pasty formulas have me reaching for a cleansing wipe quicker than you can say, “pass the lip balm.” There’s always that fear that a lack of sheen will highlight every fault and unsightly line around the mouth. But I love bold, high-impact lip colours and to be honest these just pack more of a punch in matte formulas.
