With all the formulations, finishes and colour options out there, foundation is one of the hardest products to get right. It forms the basis of any makeup look and it’s pretty much unavoidable- so when you get it wrong, it literally ruins everything. A staggering 58% of women test foundation on the back of their hand, where the skin is a completely different colour to the face. Add to that the hideous neon lighting in most department stores and you get a recipe for a makeup matching disaster.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that lipstick is the single makeup item that brings the most joy to my life. It has magical, instant makeover powers that work for everyone. A slick of colour will instantly perk up your complexion and make you feel more polished and put together. Diving in to deeper shades of lipstick is one of my most favourite things about the cooler months, though admittedly I’ll happily sport a burgundy lip in the height of summer too.
I adore eyebrows; they’re a feature that can make or break your look. Too thin and you’ll look like a 1970’s throwback; too thick and you risk seeming unkempt or severe. After years of over-zealous tweezing, I now suffer from seriously patchy arches. I’ve haven’t mustered up the courage quite yet to try semi-permanent solutions so I make do with the makeup options, many of which are excellent.
