Ah the ubiquitous avocado. By now you’ve probably eaten it every which way on toast and in salads, added it to your morning smoothie and plastered the photos all over social media as evidence. The only thing left to do is smear it all over your face- and hair, hands, arms, legs….
Long touted as a “miracle food”, avocados are rich in natural oils, potassium, high in protein, vitamins A, B, D, E and K and omega 3 fatty acids. In beauty terms, this means that they’re basically an all round wonder cure, that when used topically, can help to repair the skin’s protective barrier, reduce inflammation and deeply hydrate parched hair and peeling nails.
My go-to DIY head-to-toe avocado mask works wonders on all skin and hair types. And as long as you don’t mind looking like Shrek for half an hour or so, it’s guaranteed to leave you with a glowing complexion and soft, shiny locks.
2 ripe avocados
1 tbsp virgin coconut oil
2 tbsp pure honey
1 tsp fresh lemon juice
Blend all the ingredients together until you have a smooth, creamy consistency. Apply on your hair from root to tip, on your face, dry areas of your body, hands or feet- basically anywhere you like! Leave it on for up to 30 minutes then shower off with lukewarm water.
If you have particularly sensitive skin, feel free to leave out lemon juice.
