There was a time where I wouldn’t go near a matte lipstick if you paid me. But gorgeous, intense shades and new silky, smooth textures have transformed me in to a shine-free lippie addict. My current favourite being NYX Matte Lipstick in Pure Red. It’s buttery, highly pigmented, stays in place and most importantly, feels comfortable on the lips. But no matter how soft a matte texture may feel, they have a tendency to dry out a little after a few hours wear.

Applying lip balm beforehand either makes lips look shiny or ruins the texture of the matte lipstick. So how do you keep your lips feeling moist without losing that shine-free finish?

Creme de la Mer

Smooth on a small amount of thick face cream such as Creme de la Mer or the classic blue Nivea, (equally as effective but much kinder on the pocket), let it soak in completely then dab away any excess with a tissue. Your matte lipstick will glide on smoothly and still look velvety, whilst your lips stay soft and moisturised for much longer.

What are your tricks for keeping your lips soft? Which matte lipsticks do you love?
