Eye creams have been getting a bad rap lately. One too many high profile beauty experts have been expressing their dislike for them, branding them “unnecessary” and “useless.” I beg to differ.
It’s true that lotions and potions are no replacement for plenty of water and a good night’s sleep (it’s eye cream, not a magic wand) but there’s much to be said for the active ingredients in many eye products that target specific problems. The skin around your eyes is the thinnest skin on your entire body. So using an eye cream can help to maintain skin, keeping extreme signs of ageing at bay for just that little bit longer.
Eye creams need patience and persistence, but keep at it for long enough and you will see results. Even if it’s just keeping the area better hydrated, every little helps. When it comes to eye products, it’s definitely a case of “the lighter, the better.” I prefer serums to creams as they’re easily absorbed, contain all of the active elements but are not as rich and heavy as a cream. Your ring finger is the weakest and has the least pressure; so use it to tap on your eye product from the outer corners inwards in an anti-clockwise motion.
Whether you suffer from dreaded dark circles, puffiness, sagging or fine lines, these four tried and tested products are jam-packed full of useful ingredients that’ll help you look more bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
Derma E Evenly Radiant Dark Circle Eye Crème
Crammed full of powerful antioxidants, not only is this cream great value for money, it’s also surprisingly effective. The formula contains Pycnogenol®, which acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and improves blood circulation. It drains away excess toxins accumulated around the eye, helping eradicate dark shadows. It also contains ingredients that help with hyper pigmentation. So if your halos are caused by sun damage (tut tut for not using sunscreen) with time, this cream will reduce the coloration.
Elemis Pro-Collagen Advanced Eye Treatment
You can always count on this British spa brand to come up with great formulas that really work; and this eye serum doesn’t disappoint. This is my current favourite and it’s become a staple in my daily skincare routine. The super-light liquid formula contains amino acids and humectants that naturally attract moisture to the deepest layers of the skin. Just two drops patted around the eyes provides intense hydration without overloading the skin. Love!
Strivectin-EV Get Even Dark Circle Corrector
Strivectin is a brand that doesn’t mess around when it comes to skin problems. It’s hardcore topical skincare solutions or the highway; and this new eye cream offering slots in comfortably with their no nonsense philosophy. If you’ve got a particularly dark under eye area, this is the one for you. Its active ingredients work to strengthen the skin, improve micro-circulation and “normalise” the transfer of melanin to help reduce pigmentation, puffiness and fine lines all in one.
La Prairie Cellular Eye Essence Platinum Rare
Ah La Prairie… The caviar of the skincare world. Whilst I may not be in love with their use of precious metals as a main selling point, I’m a sucker for silky formulas and shiny, futuristic applicators. An added bonus is that this serum actually does improve the appearance of the eye area. In the two months that I used it, my eyes were fresher, brighter and looked less terrible than they normally would after a restless night. The metal ball at the end of the dropper cools the eye contour and helps minimise puffiness.
Have you tried any of these? Which are your favourite eye care products?
