A Guide to the Best Beauty Salons

Where: Marquee

The Lowdown: The Golden Age of Hollywood lies at the heart and soul of Marquee. Inspired by 1950s classic movies, glitz and glamour are the name of the game at this refreshing hairstyling destination. The glossy white and chrome interiors are luxurious and inviting, yet still stay true to the retro feel of the salon. The widescreen TV shows classic movies so you can fully immerse yourself and let go for some genuine me-time.

Whether you opt for voluminous, tumbling locks or an Audrey-inspired up ‘do, they aim to have you red carpet-ready in 35 minutes. Whatever your hair type or length, the salon charges a flat rate of 130 AED for all the styles in their four separate menus. One must-try service is the hair-sewing technique, offered exclusively at Marquee. Created by session stylist Kevin Murphy, this revolutionary technique makes bobby things a thing of the past by using linen thread and a needles to secure your style and hair accessories in place for hours.

After a relaxing intensive detox wash, hydrating treatment and mini scalp massage (the chairs lay flat so a little snooze was in order), my stylist surprised me with a Veronica Lake-style look that was super shiny and with just the right amount of curl.

Not only have they sourced talented and creative stylists from around the world, they’ve also left no stone unturned looking for innovative, ecologically aware and animal-friendly products to stock in house. This is definitely one place to keep on speed dial if you want glam on the go.
