Most of us are very diligent when it comes to taking care of our faces. We know what works for us and we’re always on the lookout for the latest state-of-the-art treatments that hold the key to eternal youth. But when it comes to focusing our attention a little further south, interest tends to dwindle.
The skin on the neck is much thinner than other areas of the body; so more often than not, it’s one of the first places where you’ll notice signs of aging. Surprisingly, loss of firmness, crepiness and even “necklace” lines are more a case of sun damage rather than just straightforward aging.
Neck Protection
Most of us apply suncream from the chin up but disregarding your neck protection leaves it at risk of damage from ultraviolet rays. UVA and UVB rays break down the collagen fibres that keep skin taut and plump. In this case, prevention is always best. Use a broad spectrum sunscreen with minimum protection of SPF 20, taking the product all the way down to your décolleté. Always remember to apply your neck products in a sweeping upwards motion, so as to not exacerbate any prospective sagging.
Whilst some may believe that neck treatment creams and serums are a waste of time, I don’t see the harm in using products that target problem areas. Many of them contain concentrated cocktails of superstar age fighters like peptides and antioxidants that will, if anything, help to prevent further damage. It might be near impossible to completely reverse the dreaded turkey-neck (without resorting to surgery) but these four products will help to keep it at bay for as long as possible.
Neck Creams to Invest In

This bestseller contain’s StriVectin’s Gravitite-CF Lifting Complex that works to improve skin elasticity, as well as a nourishing cocktail of hyaluronic acid, exfoliating lactic acid to smooth out wrinkles and firm the skin. Not to mention, it also includes brightening botanicals and the brand’s patented form of vitamin B3 to help strengthen the skin’s barrier.

You’re skin type doesn’t end at your chin. It’s important to be aware of what kind of skin you have on your neck; does it feel taut and dry? Is it prone to breakouts? One brand that has taken this in to account is Estée Lauder. Its range of neck creams not only target neck problems, but they also offer different formulations according to skin type. If you’re not quite sure of what type of neck skin you have, “normal to combination” is always a safe bet.
This cream doesn’t come cheap but it contains some interesting anti-aging ingredients. The brand’s own bio-engineered growth hormone claims to mimics the natural hormones essential for cell renewal and restoration that the body loses with age. It’s suitable for all the skin types of skincare obsessives.
Clarins is one of my favourite brands for skincare. The products are simple, fuss-free, and a good introduction for skincare newbies. This neck cream is a great choice for those wanting to protect against impending lines and sagging. It’s enriched with green seaweed extract and sunflower auxins to tighten and refine.
