“To be truly transformative, the post-2015 development agenda must prioritise gender equality and women’s empowerment. The world will never realise 100 per cent of its goals if 50 per cent of its people cannot realise their full potential.” – Ban Ki-Moon

March 8th is International Women’s Day and this year’s theme is “Empowering Women- Empowering Humanity: Picture It!” Beauty brands around the world are joining in the celebration of the everyday acts of courage, dedication and determination of women everywhere.

As always, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is playing a key role in evening out the playing field for females with their annual Pretty Powerful Campaign which strives to support global organisations that focus on building confidence in women and girls whilst providing educational programmes and training for those in need.

Gucci Parfums also announced that it has exceeded 1 million USD goal in donations since its partnership with Chime for Change in 2013. Founded by Gucci together with Salma Hayek-Pinault and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, the campaign aims to raise funds and awareness for education, health and justice projects for girls and women worldwide.

Along with members of the Chime for Change founding committee and advisory board, many other influential voices, such as Evan Rachel Wood, James Franco and Chris Evans, have also joined the campaign, recognising the power of celebrity to raise awareness

Actress Blake Lively, the face of Gucci Première, says, “I am very excited that Gucci is giving back. It’s an incredible initiative that I am so connected with. It approaches real world issues in a unique way, giving you an active voice in the change that you hope to create. It becomes personal. Gucci is not only making donations, it is also helping people understand where their money is going. That donation ends up being a seed for knowledge and empowerment.”

With each purchase of Gucci Guilty pour Femme and pour Homme, Gucci Première, Gucci Made To Measure and Flora by Gucci, customers receive a unique code that they can use to donate 5 USD to projects supporting girls and women at ChimeforChange.org
