Season after season, the beauty looks at the Dolce & Gabbana shows never fail to disappoint. And while this season’s woman was still perpetually beautiful, elegant and sexy, this time she exuded a sense of something deeper. Backstage, images of iconic mothers covered the mood boards; Italian muse, Monica Belucci in full pregnancy bloom, Jackie O with her Kennedy brood and charming shots of bombshells, Sophia Loren and Jane Birkin with their children. This is the designer duo’s ultimate homage “la mamma.”
As always, makeup magician, Pat McGrath created a glamorous yet enchanting look, but this time with a more innate femininity shining through the outward glitz. The winged liner was precise but not severe and matte lipstick in shades of wine or nude were pressed on to lips for a softer finish. Regardless of whether you’re a mother or not, this is timeless look that looks charmingly pretty on everyone. Here’s how to recreate the look with some of my budget beauty favourites. You probably have one or two of these in your makeup bag too.
Maybelline FIT Me! Foundation
Use fingers to pat on your favourite foundation, starting at the centre of the face where most of us need the heaviest coverage, blending outwards. Dust over the T-zone with a translucent powder. This foundation blends well and has a natural dewy finish but is still quite long-lasting.
Bourjois Little Round Pot Blush in 15 Rose Eclat
Use a rounded brush to apply a warm peach/pink powder blush on to the apples of the cheeks. Tap off the excess powder before applying to the face for a soft wash of colour. This shade is very subtle and works well on most skin tones.
Revlon ColorStay Liquid Liner
One of the easiest ways to get your liner as close as possible to the lash line is to apply it whilst looking down in to a hand mirror. Start at the outer corner by drawing the outline of the wing, then line the inner corners moving outwards. Fill in the wing shape. Finish with two coats of your favourite mascara, concentrating at the roots of the lashes for extra curl. This liner goes on smoothly and dries without flaking. It’s also easy to use and a super rich black.
Rimmel London Lasting Finish Matte by Kate Moss in 111
Whether you go for a pretty beige-pink nude or a rich burgundy, apply your shade straight from the tube and then use the tip of your finger to pat out the colour for a softer look. This lipstick has a beautiful velvet finish and the rich pigment lasts for hours.
