I’ve been an passionate wearer of sunscreen for over eight years now; around the same time that I left foggy old London for Dubai’s sunny climes. And not just your standard factor 15; I’m talking full on SPF 50+ come rain or shine. In fact, I don’t even need to be leaving the house to slather on the sun protection.

Despite all the scientific evidence proving that sunblocks actively prevent skin cancer and more importantly, wrinkles and saggy skin (ha!) it’s one of the most ignored products in women’s skincare routines.

“But they’re so heavy, they give me spots, they slide off my face in the heat!” With complaints like these, it’s little wonder that so many women don’t bother with them, even in year round sunshine. Having said that, according to Skincancer.org, more people have been diagnosed with skin cancer than all other cancers combined. A sobering statistic to say the least.

Luckily, sun creams have changed considerably in recent years, offering protection from both UVA (the ones that cause cell damage and ageing) and UVB (the ones that burn skin) rays. Now you can find formulas that are light, dry to the touch and don’t clog your pores. So if you don’t fancy risking skin cancer and looking like a saddle by the time you’re forty, these four products are amazing. Give them a try.

chanel uv essentiel SPF 50

Chanel UV Essentiel Anti-Pollution Broad Spectrum SPF 50

Acts as a filter for harmful free radicals and pollution to protect skin from photo ageing. It’s also very light and goes under makeup like a dream.

olay white radiance uv blocker

Olay White Radiance Ultra UV Blocker SPF 50+

A great budget buy that doesn’t compromise on quality. The lotion is easily absorbed and doesn’t leave a white film. It’s quite moisturising so I’d recommend it for normal to dry complexions.

kiehls super fluid uv dense

Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+

This is definitely a longtime favourite of mine. It’s oil-free and completely dry to the touch without sitting uncomfortably on the surface of the skin. Perfect under makeup.

skinceuticals physical fusion uv defense

Skinceuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50

This is a sheer fluid with a “universal tint” that adapts to suit all skin tones and enhance your natural glow. It’s also paraben-free and non-comedogenic to boot.

What’s your favourite sun protection product?

  4. Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this website.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very
hard to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and visual appeal.
I must say you have done a great job with this. In addition, the blog loads extremely quick for me on Opera.
    Excellent Blog!

  5. Kiehls super fluid, definitely ! I also tend to use bb creams/foundation with sunscreen above any sunscreen fluid. Doing literally anything to avoid hyperpigmentation etc at later age. Dubai’s sunshine is lovely for the bones but a nightmare for skin. Thank you for sharing…will try skinceuticals.

  6. Informative article, just what I was looking for.
